How does our toddler programme work?

The class starts with an introduction to Jog the
Frog (our Clamber Club fitness mascot!) who says
hello to the toddlers. An indoor session follows with
wonderful props and action music to keep young minds
attentive and interested. There is always a different
theme for the week that is related to developmental theory.
The class then moves outdoors where a large amount of
colourful equipment awaits them. Equipment is usually divided
into ‘stations’ where toddlers can explore and try out different
motor skills.

Our handy tips on use of equipment at each equipment station, give parents valuable insight into the benefits and uses of the equipment. For the older groups a ‘skill of the week’ is included as a group activity. Juice and biscuits are served to the froggie and leap frog classes. The class ends with a gathering activity, a farewell song and a goodbye to Jog the Frog.

Each week has a specific theme for each age group. Should parents wish to have more detailed information on the theme of the week, we have the theme of the week notes on a theme of the week board. This board usually has some theory as to why and what we are focusing on that week.

Theatrical themes

Every term we have a few ‘special’ theatrical themes where we decorate the entire indoor area and all age groups follow the same session. The themes vary each term from “Zoo” week to “Circus” week to “Spring” week. These fun filled sessions provide many opportunities to teach your child new vocabulary and to increase his understanding of the world around him

Skill of the week

The skill of the week is a set group activity that is repeated every week. This skill is only for the froggies and the leap frogs. Toddlers enjoy repetition and so the skill is designed in such a way that they know exactly what to do every week. We focus on balance as balance promotes laterality which in turn promotes directionality and spatial skills. Good balance also promotes confidence in the playground.

Each week the skill is changed slightly so as to promote motor planning skills. We also use a variety of ’posting’ objects. These objects are of different weight, size, shape and texture thereby promoting the tactile sense. This is where your child learns about different properties of objects and the ‘posting’ promotes eye
hand co-ordination.

The activity also requires sequencing. The ability to follow instructions and social
etiquette such as taking turns or waiting for your turn

How are our teachers trained?

All teachers who work at the Clamber Club go through a
very thorough training of theory and practical work
before they run any classes. (To see more go to `all
about us’) Our team will do its best to provide you and
your child with an updated professional service that
you will both enjoy and benefit from.
